Ten Penny Gypsy
Since 2010, Little Rock, AR singer/songwriters Justin Patterson and Laura Lynn Danley have been performing at music festivals, songwriter showcases, and traditional venues across the country, delighting audiences along the way with their eclectic brand of acoustic Americana.

In 2017, the duo took a major step forward, rebranding themselves as Ten Penny Gypsy, and recording their self-titled debut album under the tutelage of renowned multi-instrumentalist/producer Anthony Crawford (Neil Young, Steve Winwood, Dwight Yoakam). “Ten Penny Gypsy’s debut album is a true snapshot of Justin Patterson and Laura Lynn Danley in full bloom”, says Crawford.

Whether it’s the plaintive longing of “Old Woman (Who Lives By the Sea)”, or the cut-to-the-bone nostalgia of “South on Main”, or the rollicking rhythm of “Perfectly Imperfect”, the songs from this album speak to the duo’s innermost emotions. Combining Patterson’s strong voice and exquisite guitar work and Danley’s infectious delivery and melodic hooks, Ten Penny Gypsy will transport you like no other, to a place you will want to return to again and again.

Compassionate Communication Practice Group
Dec 19 @ 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm
Compassionate Communication Practice Group @ Unity of Little Rock | Little Rock | Arkansas | United States

Compassionate Communication (NVC) Practice Group begins for all who are interested – no experience needed.

5:30-6:00PM – Short Whole Group Check-in
6:00-7:00PM – Break into pairs or trios for empathy

Compassionate Communication is both a personal practice that helps us see our common humanity, and a concrete set of skills which help us to live more peacefully. These skills apply to thought, language, and using our power in a way that honors everyone’s needs.

NVC is a learnable process for creating emotional freedom, self-acceptance, inner peace, and fulfilling relationships. It involves expressing ourselves honestly, listening with empathy, and developing a more compassionate inner relationship.

People around the world are using NVC skills to transform conflict, create harmony in their relationships, and build a world where everyone’s needs are honored through compassionate giving, and without the use of coercion or violence.

NVC helps people to:

  • speak in a way that inspires compassion and understanding
  • initiate difficult conversations with more ease and confidence
  • remain centered and peaceful while hearing difficult messages
  • finding the gift underneath anger so that instead of blasting someone with blame, you transform anger into life-serving energy
  • shift patterns of thinking that lead to depression, guilt, shame
  • enliven yourself by expressing and receiving gratitude
  • translate criticism, judgments and blame into life-serving messages
  • resolve long-standing conflicts and heal painful relationships
  • inspire others to change their behavior willingly
Oneness Blessing
Dec 19 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Oneness Blessing @ Unity Church of Little Rock | Little Rock | Arkansas | United States

Oneness Blessing – Experience the grace of this hands-on direct transfer of intelligent, sacred energy which causes the heart to open, quiets the chatter of the minds, opens the door to higher states of consciousness and experiences of Oneness with the Divine.

The Oneness Blessing is a dimension of our Prayer Ministry which carries with it an Eastern flavor.  The Oneness Blessing is a hands-on direct transfer of an intelligent, sacred energy which causes the heart to open, quiets the chatter of the mind and opens the door to higher states of consciousness and experiences of Oneness with the Divine.  The Oneness Blessing is a non-denominational benediction. Awakening is a process and the Oneness Blessing accelerates that process for many in a permanent and tangible way.  The Oneness Blessings are cumulative – the more you receive, the greater the benefit.  For questions call Chris Johnson at 501-258-1899.

There are classes and events going on virtually everyday at Unity of Little Rock. All scheduled groups and events are spiritual in nature, however some are derived from traditions other than Unity; THIS CLASS/GROUP STARTED OUTSIDE OF UNITY. While this class/group is not necessarily founded in the traditions and teachings of Unity, they do honor the sovereignty of the Christ consciousness within each individual. We are an open spiritual community that believes there is “Truth” within many cultural or religious traditions and enthusiastically support the spiritual unfolding of every individual.

Unity of Little Rock Songwriters Group
Jan 10 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Meets the second Wednesday of each month, at 6:30 PM

What it is:
An opportunity for songwriters at any level to get together and share experiences and ideas with other songwriters. It is open to songwriters at all levels (if you’ve every written a song, you’re a songwriter). The structure of the meeting is up to the participants.

Who should participate:
Anyone who is interested in songwriting is welcome.

What to bring:
Yourself. An instrument, if you play one (and its portable) feel free to bring it. It is not required. Songwriters who are lyricists only are welcome (as are songwriters who are composers only). If you have a notebook of ideas or songs, feel free to bring it. If you have demo-tapes, lyric sheets, etc. and would like to share and get reactions, yes, bring them.

What it’s for:
The main purpose is to create a Community of Songwriters.

This is intended to be an inclusive group, responsive to the needs of our community. Its structure will evolve as the community forms and grows.

What we’ll do:
We will share songs and stories of how the songs were written. We will give each other suggestions, constructive criticism, and support one another on our respective songwriting journeys. We recognize that not all songwriters are at the same level, and will seek to create a safe, accepting, and non-competitive atmosphere.

We will discuss the spiritual aspects of songwriting and the creative process in general.

Depending on the needs of this community, we may have exercises designed to stimulate creativity, release writer’s block, and encourage cooperation in songwriting.

Who is organizing this:
This group is initially organized by Bill Bennett. Bill is a software engineer by trade, currently employed in the pursuit of Biomedical Informatics at UAMS, who has been writing songs for over thirty years. Bill has at various times, been a member of NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International), the Dallas Songwriters Association, and the Dallas Folk Music Society. He has studied songwriting at the Kerrville Folk Festival Songwriters School in Kerrville, Texas.
